I love John 8:32. “Then you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.

I am often too quick though to quote it with no reference to the previous verse – the one that is setting the stage for verse 32. In fact, something I noticed recently is there are no ending quotation marks after verse 31. It’s a continued thought..

Verse 31 To the Jews who believed in Him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teachings you are truly my disciples.

Verse 32 Then you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.”

We can’t have one without the other. And here we truly have an If and then statement – a statement that teaches good consequences – IF I remain in God’s word – adhere to the teachings of Scripture – focus on scripture – stay in scripture – THEN I will know the truth and that truth will set me free.

It’s that simple – yet so easy to get distracted with life and put Him aside.

Oh Lord, thank you for continually teaching me and showing me more of you. When I go to quote that amazing scripture about being free in your truth, quicken me to recall the importance of holding true to your teachings and that freedom is the result thereof. I love you. Thank you for loving me. Amen.
