God is so gracious.
This image was in my fb timeline this morning.
Another reminder of God’s grace.
To you this sign is nothing more than a simple reminder to remember what the noise of jet engines flying over represent . . . our freedom.
Some take that “noise” for granted and are offended by it.
And yet others read it and get a lump in their throat because they understand better than most the sacrifices made for our freedom.
I lived with Dad for one year while he was stationed at Paris Island. He often quoted this sign when people would complain.
“The noise you hear is the sound of freedom.”
Those words took on a new meaning to me last year though. August the 9th we buried our dad. As dad’s body was being removed from the hearse, out of nowhere came the flying formation of the Blue Angels over the tree tops. As the engines roared over our heads the Lord whispered, “the noise you hear is the sound of freedom.”
It took my breath away . . . actually, it took everyone’s breath away.
It was an absolute incredible experience because just hours before dad passed away, he relinquished control over his life. As one of dad’s friends prayed for dad and offered a prayer of salvation over dad, even though he couldn’t speak, we, his children, know at that moment dad was hearing and believing in Jesus in his heart. Everything he had heard but rejected previously was coming to light. After dad surrendered his life to Jesus the hard lines on his face became soft. The aura of the room changed. Dad was free of his demons. Dad was at peace. He took his final breath in the wee hours of the following morning. It was then, just seconds before he took his last breath, he made his first attempt to speak in over a week as he mouthed, “I love you” to his three children. It was the most beautiful and peaceful moment I had ever experienced and one I will forever be thankful to God for giving us.
