“We get to sit on the side lines and watch God fill the bottles of oil while you are the one He chose to live it out.”
A friend spoke those words to me a few years ago. They come to mind from time to time. Today, while my thoughts were going in a hundred different directions, the Lord brought them to mind, once again.
So I opened my Bible, and read. Again, how God meets the needs on His people in astounding ways.
The scriptures in reference is found in 2 Kings 4:1-7.
The woman’s husband had passed away. He was a God-fearing man, but they had debt and the creditor was coming to take their children. She pleaded for help.
(verse 2 – 7) NIV
Elisha spoke to her and said, ” How can I help you? Tell me, what do you have in your house?”
“Your servant has nothing there at all,” she said, “except a little oil.”
Elisha said, “Go around and ask all your neighbors for empty jars. Don’t ask for just a few. Then go inside and shut the door behind you and your sons. Pour oil into all the jars, and as each is filled, put it to one side.”
She left him and afterward shut the door behind her and her sons. They brought the jars to her and she kept pouring. When all the jars were full, she said to her son, “Bring me another one.”
But he replied, “There is not a jar left.” Then the oil stopped flowing.
She went and told the man of God, and he said, “Go, sell the oil and pay your debts. You and your sons can live on what is left.”
Now, a couple thoughts crossed my mind. The first thought was how the Lord has been using essential oils to bring healing to mine and my children’s lives, the second thought, “is it time to make this a profitable business?” and the third, “God, you rock.” But more than that too . . . . she was willing to do anything, whatever it was Elisha told her to do. Her faith was huge.
I know in this day and age, our family is not the only one walking through a fiery storm. I pray these passages encourage you to:
