AMEN!

When I first heard this song, I couldn’t stand it. I don’t know why, it just crawled under my skin . . . until the first time it applied to me and I actually heard a few lyrics that kept me listening . . . “You are not alone . . . ” were the words that penetrated my heart after hearing we were losing our home. Oh how the tears fell . . . “give thanks to the Lord for his love never ends,” and “if you are rich or poor, well it don’t matter . . . ”  Wow. Each word seemed to take on a new meaning and application.

Ironically, EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. I am in the car, THE SONG COMES ON THE RADIO! I’m not kidding! EVERY. TIME! As soon as I hear the lyrics, Christopher and I look at each other and give a high five now. In fact, as I was searching for it on you tube a few minutes ago, he heard it from another room and came running. The song that once made my skin crawl, now brings comfort, and a personal challenge to me.

The word amen means, “so be it.” I choke even typing those words. It means regardless my situation, circumstances, lifestyle, I accept whatever you choose for me to walk through. So when I am saying, “Give thanks for the Lord for His love never ends, Amen.” That means give thanks regardless my situation, circumstances, and lifestyle . . . whether rich or poor . . . Amen. When I think I’m alone . . . Amen. Whew. That has been hard for me. There are times when the song plays on the radio that I weep and sing, “Amen,” and then there are times when I rejoice . . . . even in the same circumstances . . . and shout, “Amen.”

I’m not sure what you are walking through today, but I want to assure you, just as He assured me through the words of this song . . .

“You are not alone if you are lonely
When you’re feeling frail, you’re not the only
We are all the same in need of mercy
To be forgiven and be free
It’s all you got to lean on
But thank God it’s all you need

And all the people said Amen, whoa oh
And all the people said Amen
Give thanks to the Lord for His love never ends
And all the people said Amen

If you’re rich or poor, well it don’t matter
Weak or strong, we know love is what we’re after
We’re all broken but we’re all in this together
God knows we stumble and fall
And He so loved the world He sent His son to save us all

And all the people said Amen, whoa oh
And all the people said Amen
Give thanks to the Lord for His love never ends
And all the people said Amen

Blessed are
The poor in spirit who are torn apart
Blessed are
The prosecuted and the pure in heart
Blessed are
The people longing for another start
For this is the Kingdom
The Kingdom of God

And all the people said Amen, whoa oh
And all the people said Amen
Give thanks to the Lord for His love never ends
And all the people said Amen”
